BRYCE HELM provides the FINAL Genot Centre (2015-2023) release with his new album CLOSE YOU'RE EYES WHY SMOKEING WEED (GEN053), a maximalist collection of 34 fever dreams. The relation between these tracks reveal something like a soulseek state of mind, with an impressive horizontal as well as vertical information density, constantly jumping between perplexing, dry counterpoints to full spectrum, jacked bangers. But the whole thing is tied together by frantic, jittery atmosphere, by a blown out, squelching, even concrète approach. In their conciseness, these tracks are almost like snippets, ringtones, dj tools, but these are not miniatures: each of them implies a world, some kind of zone, the elaboration of their implied horizon left as trivial exercise to the listener.
